We are all looking to save money where and when we can. As preppers saving money on one item, leads to buying another. When it comes to firearms though it’s hard to save money and buy a quality firearm you can rely on. Too many ‘cheap’ brands are not reliable and do not work well when it comes to heavy extended use. How do you buy a quality firearm without breaking the bank? It’s a question many ask, and hopefully I can give an answer here.
Entry level Guns
Many companies are producing an entry level series of firearms that are designed to attract new shooters. often these firearms lack some of the bells and whistles of their more expensive counterparts, but are still quality weapons that deserve some attention from the budget buyer. Examples include.
This is a full sized duty pistol that is rather new to Walther’s lineup. Chambered in either 9mm or 40 S&W the Walther PPX is a distinct weapon at an excellent price. Although the weapon is listed as DAO, it has a very light trigger, and does not have a second strike capability. The Walther PPX lacks features like changeable back straps and night sights, but is a bargain at right around 279.99 for the standard blued model.
The Maverick is essentially a scaled down Mossberg 500 with a few different features, and several parts made outside of the United States. The Maverick is still a pump action twelve gauge, but has a cross bolt safety, and a one piece forearm assembly. Other than that it still essentially a Mossberg 500. The Maverick is compatible with Mossberg 500 accessories, except for the forearm assembly, and is just as reliable for less than 200 dollars.
The Polish AKs
The Polish AKs are just like any other AK, ugly, but reliable, powerful, and accurate enough. These AKs are commonly going around 400 bucks, and take all the common AK magazines and accessories. The Polish AKs are excellent values at only 400 dollars.
This is my examples of good entry level weapons. They aren’t shiny and chock full of features, but they work, and they work well. These three guns can all be had for less than the cost of a mid level AR 15.
